CRAFTING TRASH INTO TREASURE

It is never a surprise when Angela Haseltine Pozzi creates some new wonder from the stuff we throw away, but this time she has made magic from the most common and senselessly discarded trash on the Oregon coast. The ubiquitous bottled water we buy by the bushel and then throw out the windows or drop where we stand has become a giant Man of War jellyfish floating not in the surf, but at the giant purple yurt at Art 101.

Ms Pozzi has been involved in a major quest to clean up Oregon's beaches and make art at a single stroke. This project is reaching its zenith and the results will be unveiled at Newport's Visual Art Center on August 13.

And while Newport has stolen a march on our local venues, have no fear the Washed Ashore project will have its South Coast opening at the Coos Art Museum in February of next year.

The choice is clear, get in the car and run up to Newport or wait for the opening at CAM, but don't procrastinate, great art waits for no one and if you miss it you will be the worse for it.
