Vets Motor Pool




Free Art Workshop
for Veterans!

Are you a local veteran and would like to try your hand at collage?
Come by the free Veteran’s Art Workshop and get creative!

Held on September 16th from 12-3 at the VFW, Bandon
Art experience is not necessary!
This workshop is free of charge and
all materials are provided!

Participants may wish to bring along a photocopy of their favorite photograph of a car, boat, motorcycle, or any other means of transportation; but we will have lots of materials to choose from.

Art made by participating veterans has the opportunity to be included in theOctober Quarterly Art Show at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center, beginning October 4th.
Our theme for that show is:
Trains, Planes, Boats and Automobiles: All Modes of Transportation”
These can be real or imaginary—past, present, or futuristic.

This collage workshop is facilitated by local artists Janice Horne and Susan Lehman.

Coos County Cultural Coalition Grant Information Sessions
Members of the Coos County Coalition will hold three informational sessions throughout the county in September.  The sessions will provide grant seekers with information on how to apply, deadlines, and other requirements.  The sessions will be September 19 at noon in the Cedar Room, Coos Bay Public Library; September 20 at 5:30pm, Coquille Community Center Small Meeting Room; September 21st at 5:30pm, Band Public Library Meeting Room.
The Coos County Cultural Coalition is organized for the purpose of preserving, protecting and developing the arts, heritage and humanities in Coos County through periodic distribution of grant monies to qualified applicants with funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust and other such funds that the Coalition may obtain. Join Guild of Natural Science Illustrator, Marly Beyer at the Coos Art Museum on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 & October 1, 10am to 5pm for Looking Closely at the Natural World-An Introduction to Scientific Illustration. This 2-day workshop will provide an introduction to traditional scientific illustration techniques. Students will learn how to accurately represent botanical and zoological specimens using graphite, pen and ink, and watercolor. Class time will cover the history and importance of scientific illustration, methods of collecting references, demonstrations of different media, and how to compose a final illustration. Students will have the opportunity to work in the field and gather their own reference material and will come away with an improved understanding of how to carefully render detailed natural specimens.

Important notes: Materials required for class are as follows: Graphite pencils (H, 2B, 4B), watercolors and small watercolor brushes (00-4), and watercolor paper (hot press).
