A duo showing of the artwork of long-time Coos Bay artist Gan Martin (1937-2004), and his daughter, Coos Bay native, Ferne Martin will be held at Black Market Gourmet Foods beginning with a public reception Sunday, September 16th from 2:00-4;00 P.M.
Award winning artist, Gan Martin, was a long time Coos Bay resident whose realistic portrayals of seascapes, woodlands and simple rural landscape scenes were heavily influenced by the beauty of the Oregon Coast. His style has been described as Regional Abstract Realism. He found new ways of seeing and depicting ordinary objects and scenes that wove surreal, profound and sometimes mysterious meaning into each composition.
Ferne Martin's photography, while highly individualized, relates to her father's work in its use of bold lines and bright color,emphasizing the patterns and structure of objects from unique perspectives. This is the first public showing in Oregon of the photographs and photographic collages that are Ferne's speciality.
