Hello Everyone,
This Monday, June 4th, 12 - 3 p.m. the paintout will be at the vacant lot west of the parking lot on Alabama in Old Town in Bandon. We will be painting the stand of cypress trees above Old Town.
If we get rained out we will meet at Art by the Sea Gallery in the Continuum Building.
Our theme this summer is "Iconic Trees of the South Coast". So if you have a favorite tree or two that you think we would like to set up and paint, please let me know. We will have a show with our trees later on.
Bring a sack lunch and beverage if you like.

Artists' Information Corner: "Copyright Information"...reprinted with permission from Robert Burridge's Artsy Fartsy Newsletter. To sign up for the newsletter or to learn more about Bob's paintings and workshops visit http://RobertBurridge.com
Shirley from Oregon asks:
Please explain to me how copyright works. I took Bob’s class a couple months ago in Oregon and I do not exactly understand…..does your copyright mean that we cannot paint any pears or other vegetables or fruit or tree or floral or landscape that Bob taught us how to paint in class. Of course, I know that we cannot copy exactly those items that are on his Web pages, but if we do our own versions of the above items? I did really enjoy the class and learned a lot, but I do submit paintings to our local art shows, etc. but just am not sure where I can go on this information.
Dear Shirley,
Thanks for your question -- and it is a doozy!
I have been asked this question about copyright, fair use, etc etc, a number of times and I have spent many hours combing thru copyright websites to see if I could find out anything new.
What Bob and I teach is this - it is an infringement of copyright if another's work is copied - in ANY way. The "percent changed argument" is so ambiguous that it is almost a non-issue. There is no magic formula. Yes - if an artist copies their instructor or a step-by-step from a magazine, they are infringing the copyright. I guess, to be fair, the art magazines should publish a disclaimer OR give everyone a fair use permit. On the other hand, studies completed in a workshop or with a magazine "lesson" were never meant to be works of art to be exhibited, sold or published.
Sometimes artists have gotten away with copying by saying "after the manner of..." or "in homage to..." but it is still copying.
Those are my two cents. A VERY interesting subject and certainly charges up a room of art students!

really fun exhibit for the summer and we hope it will combine collectibles
