Second Street Gallery, at 210 Second Street in Old Town
Bandon, announced today Ken Michaelsen of Bandon will show a
selection of his artwork beginning Saturday, June 16th and
continuing through Sunday, July 29, 2012.
Born in San Francisco, California, Michaelsen has combined a
love of nature and a talent for art, making him one of
America’s outstanding wildlife painters.
After spending 4 years in the Air Force, Ken attended San
Francisco Academy of Art. For 15 years, he made his living
creating commercial illustration. Then his career took a
turn when he began to specialize in wildlife illustration.
A major breakthrough for his career occurred when he won the
prestigious California State Duck Stamp competition in the
1978. The next year he won the most coveted honor in the
entire field of sporting art, the Federal Duck Stamp
Competition, recognition that gave him a special place among
waterfowl enthusiasts. In 1991, California Ducks Unlimited
awarded Ken “Artist of the Year”. He has received other
awards for his work from the states of Nevada, Louisiana and
Delaware.
Ken and his wife Judy, also an accomplished artist, recently
settled in Bandon, having lived in Mt. Shasta, California,
for the past 20 years. “We found that we needed to return
to sea level and live near the ocean. Bandon offers us great
opportunities to expand our painting to include seascapes,
birds, animals and nature”, explain the Michaelsen.
The show can be viewed daily between the hours of 10AM and
5PM. For additional information regarding shows, summer
