Robert Levy grew up in the West Los Angeles area, graduated from UCLA, got a masters degree in Zoology (neurophysiology), and then graduated from the University of Virginia Medical School. He did his internship and residency at Los Angeles County-USC Medical center. He then practiced Internal Medicine in Monterey, California for 7 years before going to Coos Bay, Oregon, where he was a member of the North Bend Medical Center from 1983 until his retirement in 2005. He continued to read echocardiograms until his complete retirement in 2011.
About the time of his retirement he started doing photography and now travels the world to get his photographs. As part of that he has been to multiple countries, as well as having traveled throughout the United States. He believes that photography can help patients get better when ill, and comfort friends and family when they are visiting their loved ones in hospital settings.
