Learning is Classy

Dear Members and BAAA Members,

We are hoping to add at least 4 more people to the Chinese Brush Painting Class with Katherine Thompson, to avoid canceling the class.

It is scheduled for Monday – Thursday, October 24, 25, 26 and 27th. Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm

It is for high school and adult students and the fee for the class is $225 for CAM members and $265 for Non-Members.

Four Gentlemen and Beyond

In this workshop, we will come to appreciate how graciously rice paper will accept the flow of ink and paint as the brush dances across it.

Participants will learn the basic strokes used to paint the “Four Gentlemen: Grass Orchid, Plum Blossom, Bamboo and Chrysanthemum”

We’ll then adapt them to other subjects including birds, fish, flowers and landscape.

Demonstrations will address Oriental composition, brush loading, dry brush technique, water control and color mixing while focusing on classic Chinese subject matter. Expect plenty of instructor help during class painting times following demonstrations. I like to bring a bit of the rich character of China’s deep history to the present and plan to lace the workshop with ancient poetry, exquisite music and stories that add meaning to our joyful, artistic endeavors.

We need at least four more to make sure the class is will go on as scheduled.

We can have six more for a total of twelve.

Please RSVP to khammer@coosart.org or call the museum at 541-267-3901 by Friday, October 14th.
