Have you looked at your CD? You know the one you got for participating in the AWE 2010? Can you imagine the amount of time, effort and expertise which went into making something so complex? And you got it just for participating!
Think of the folks who lined up to pay five dollars a head for this. They don’t feel conned, gypped, or swindled. They took one look at the show and knew they had to have more time to consider the art, the writing, the effort it took to get this show on the wall.
So if you have looked, (And if you haven’t shame on you, go do it now. Right now, put down the remote and go over to the computer and slide that disc in to the drive.), you know that the first thing which you see is the foreword by Ava Richey.
Now Ava knows and she does right by the people who helped her get this gigantic, colossal, stupendous show on the road, she says thank you. That’s right the simplest of courtesies a thank you.
And that is what each and every one of us, we who got all the nice words and admiring glances at the reception, that what we owe Ava.
Now don’t do it because I said to and don’t do it because I shamed you into it and don’t do it because it will make you look good when you meet your artist pals at the next reception, do it because you mean it.
Say thank you to Ava who came up with the idea and then went out and organized not one, but two count’em two AWE shows. Come on, admit it when the last AWE was finished you picked up your CD and promptly forgot all about it. That CD is somewhere on your desk collecting dust or being used as a coaster. And you never said a word of thanks.
So make up for it this time. Say thank you and mean it and tell everyone you know to do the same and maybe, just maybe Ava won’t pick up her blocks and go home. You do want another AWE show, don’t you? Good then you’d better start slathering on the honey because hard work doesn’t get done unless someone feels it was worth it.
And while you are in a mood to do the right thing, say thank you to Victoria Tierney, Susan Lehman, Janet Keenlyside and Arlene Tinsley. You could add Melanie Rose if you really, really want to as long as you are covering all of the bases.
Thanks a bunch guys, ya done good and that’s a fact.
