Food for the spirit, food for the body

In Port Orford there’s a new Gallery in town and its name is The Hawthorne. Now in fact the owners of The Hawthorne Gallery and Redfish restaurant have been in business long enough to know better, but they did it anyway.

Chris and Julie Hawthorne of Port Orford and Gregory and Susan Hawthorne of Big Sur have taken a location next to Battle Rock State Park and have opened the second Hawthorne Gallery. But in Port Orford they’ve added a restaurant just to make sure they get all of the traffic in the neighborhood.

Chris is a noted glass artist and Susan does sculptural pottery. (If you haven’t any idea of what that could be you need to go to Port Orford and see for yourself.)

And while you are there feasting on all of the works of art and enjoying the majestic scenery of Battle Rock why not plan to be there 11am to 10pm Wednesday through Friday or 9am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday? You do eat? Then make it a feast of too many virtues and feed the inner as well as the outer man.

Now don’t let all of the wonders intimidate you, just because Susan won the 2011 Niche magazine award for her piece, Silver With Stones, she’ll let you eat, so long as you pay and promise to gush and praise her accomplishments.

Port Orford is only a short drive away; why not plan on going on the weekend and having lunch as well as taking in the gallery. The view alone is worth the drive and with the pleasure of seeing all of the art and enjoying the new gallery you could impress the socks off your SO. Don’t have a SO? If you ask someone special to come with you that just might change.
