inside/outside
a show of prison art by those recently released and those still behind bars in the Oregon Prison System
month of SEPTEMBER/ BANDON PUBLIC LIBRARY
OPENING RECEPTION:thursday, September 3rd, 5-8pm
Sprague Room/ music and refreshments
Dear
Friends, I hope you can join us for the opening of this exhibit of
mostly new works and some older ones by Oregon Prison artists, many
whose work you have seen before at the hospital, the library, Sage
Gallery, Black Market Gourmet, and the Coos Art Museum. As many of you
know, this has been a project dear to my heart. Some of the new work is
by artists we have never shown before; some is by artists working in
new mediums and tackling new subject matter. The image above is one of a
series of hand-drawn cards sent by my son to family members which will
be shown as part of the exhibit; hand-made cards are a special category
of prison art, since there are very few gifts prisoners can send to
their loved ones. Many artists create cards not only for their family
members, but for the families of other inmates as well. The exhibit
will be in both the display cases and in the corridor at the Bandon
Library in September. Hope to see you on the 3rd.
