Made of Clay

Greetings esteemed members of the South Coast clay arts community and community at large,

* What: A Community Raku Firing *** held in conjunction with The Village Gym's Grand Opening

* Who: Hosted by The Clay Room at The Village Gym, Langlois, Oregon.

* When: Sunday August 30, 2015 1:00 PM to 4:00... or later if we still have Pots, Participants, and Propane.

* Where: Hwy 101 to Langlois, turn in at the red brick school. (Langlois is a vital community half way between Bandon by the Sea and Port Orford.)

* Why: Do we need to ask why?

*** Propane fuel for the kilns is provided by the Port Orford Arts Council.
Raku kilns and glazes are provided by The Clay Room and community member donations.

If you participate, bring bisqued pots, favorite raku glazes if you have some, and sturdy clothing, shoes, and safety eye wear. Face shields, aprons, tongs and gloves are provided.

We will do bisque firings at The Clay Room the week before the event. Contact David.

If wishing but unable to make pots in time, or pots at all, we have an abundance to share. So if you put your creative efforts into glazing a pot and participate in the firing, the pot is yours to keep.

*** If you come to spectate and "ooh and ah" over the excitingly immediate firing process and the colors and forms coming from the kilns firing to near 1800 degrees fahrenheit, you also need to wear appropriate clothing and eye protection because the excitement will draw you in close to the action.

Sheltered, rain or shine.
