IN MORE DETAIL
Coos Art Museum is thrilled to welcome artist John Hewitt back to the Bay Area for a three-day watercolor workshop Saturday, August 23 through Monday, August 25, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn to design a work of art, not just a reproduction of a scene. Using elements and principles of design developed over hundreds of years by the great masters you will learn to express YOUR personal view of the world around you, not just a copy of what you see. First you must master the technique and in watercolor that is no small task. It can be learned in a few easy steps that can be practiced until they are second nature. We will cover these steps in the first hour. A new scene will be painted each day with commentary on what we are trying to say and how we say it. Subjects covered will be water, sand, driftwood, rocks, buildings, clouds, grasses, etc. A technique for each will be explored and an explanation for choice of paint, paper and brushes will be given. You will be guided toward your own preference of style, not the teacher’s style. Hewitt states, “I have been a student of the greatest watercolorists of the 20th century. My goal is to pass on this legacy to the 21st century. Come join us and have a great time becoming a successful plein air artist. You will receive encouragement, not criticism.” Important notes: This will be a plein air workshop, weather permitting. Media: Watercolor. Skill Level: All skill levels welcome. Age Range: Adults only. 12 students max. The workshop fee is $195 for CAM members/$220 non-members. For registration form visit www.coosart.org or contact the Art Education Dept. at (541) 267-3901 or sldonaldson@coosart.org.
