Monday Plein Air Paintout Information

Hello Everyone,

This Monday, August 13th, we will be painting at Marsh Haven Bed & Breakfast, 47815 Floras Lake Loop, Langlois, OR 9:00 a.m. to 12:00.   If you want to paint longer after that, we can go to Floras Lake by the boat ramp/bridge area.  Bring a lunch, and water, etc. and your painting gear.

Directions:  14.5 miles south of Bandon turn west off Hwy 101 onto Floras Lake Loop. (There is a brown sign directing you to Boyce-Cope Campground at Floras Lake.)  The road will make a left corner by the farm with the tall blue silos, once you make the left turn Marsh Haven is the first driveway on the left hand side.  There is a sign at the driveway that says Marsh Haven Bed & Breakfast.

At Marsh Haven we will be parking on the grassy area on the left before the mailbox and driveway, as there isn't a lot of room for parking inside the fence.

If you want to caravan or carpool with me, I will be leaving Bandon at 8:30 a.m.  Meet me at the vacant lot next to Forget Me Knots quilt store on Hwy 101 across from the Station Restaurant.  Please let me know if you are meeting me so I don't leave you.

Our theme this summer is "Iconic Trees of the South Coast".  So if you have a favorite tree or two that you think we would like to set up and paint, please let me know.  We will have a show with our trees later on.

My phone number 541-297-6118.

Thanks!
Ava

p.s.  Don't forget ArtWalk tonight in North Bend/Coos Bay.  Charles of Charleston & Joni Fox of the Tuesday Plein Air Painters will be at Gallery by the Bay, 2100 Union Ave in North Bend.  Let's support our fellow plein air painters, and all the other artists out there.  :)

Au Naturel: The Nude in the 21st Century is an international juried competition hosted annually by the Art Center of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon, with a focus on the time-honored tradition of the nude human figure, an art form that continues to inspire and challenge many artists today as one of the most potentially rewarding subjects to explore. This exhibit represents a wide range of interpretations of the human figure from representational to abstract, and is open to all artists from around the world working in any drawing, painting, and printmaking media in which the handmade mark is employed as the primary means of image-making.

Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) has set a deadline of August 15, 2012 for the first of three deadlines for Career Opportunity Grants.  Additional resources from The Ford Family Foundation are available to mid-career visual artists in this cycle.

Guidelines and access to the on-line grant application are
available at
http://oregon.culturegrants.org/navigation/links/page/grants-to-individuals.
Career Opportunity Grants support Oregon artists who have identified critical opportunities to advance their careers through the development of artistic, or business and professional skills.

Artists may apply for funding to show in national or international exhibits, to participate in conferences, workshops or residencies, or to explore other ways to expand their knowledge and business base.  Up to $1500 may be requested.  Emerging and established artists practicing all disciplines are eligible, students and hobbyists are not.

The Ford Family Foundation Opportunity Grants target full-time visual artists in the 30 and over age group.  Awards range from $1500 to $7500.  Artists apply for The Ford Family Foundation funds in the same manner as the Career Opportunity grants; the applications are reviewed in a single combined process.

"We are very pleased to offer this important support to Oregon artists in partnership with The Ford Family Foundation", said OAC Executive Director Chris D'Arcy.  "The Career Opportunity grants have enabled artists to take designs into the commercial marketplace; allowed others to travel to present their work at international fairs and festivals, and provided for the professional recording of new music.  These artists are important part of Oregon's creative economy.

Grant applications are evaluated according to the following three criteria.

Artistic Merit 50% quality of work samples, background and experience as demonstrated by resume, samples and other supporting materials.

Career Impact 45% uniqueness of the opportunity, quality of the proposed event, or a clearly defined need for the artistic or business skill proposed to be developed.

Budget 5%:  Costs proportional to proposed activity, purpose for which grant funds will be used.
