Art is not just paint.
What? That’s sacrilege!
No it isn’t, it’s a fact. Like Ciccarelli’s.
What do facts and Ciccarelli’s have in common, art.
The other day I was in North Bend, (Very adventurous for me, if you have been following this blog), and I stopped at Gary Ostrom’s gallery and bakery. Yes, I know that’s a bit strange, but if you weren’t already a bohemian, you wouldn’t be interested in art. Oh sure, you can try to deny it, I did for years, “I’m not an artist. They have their heads in the clouds while I am a very down-to-earth, four-square kind of Texan, with sand in my craw and clear eyes and a nose for manure! No left-wing, commie, pinko, hippy artist, not me.” And you see how well all that self-delusion worked out.
So now that we know what you are, (I said I was one too), let’s move on and state for the record that there are all kinds of arts and one of them is food. Sure, that’s why there are five cooking channels and so many celebrity-chefs you can’t count the crock pots and admit it you watch too, maybe with all the lights turned out, but you do it, you know it in your heart of hearts, so come clean. Food is great.
That’s why when I found out that Gary, a fantastic local artist, had added baking to his resume; I had to tell ya’ll. And so now I’ll tell you something else.
Ciccarelli’s is a two blocks south of Gary’s C2B Bakery Studio. That’s 2076 Sherman Ave or (541) 751 1999 just in case you want to take a look or call.
It has a plain storefront so don’t be put off, go in and take a look. The dinning rooms are broken up into smallish, but pleasant spaces big enough to avoid rubbing elbows but not so big that you are afraid a soccer game will break out.
But the real treat is the patio. When I was there the weather was cool enough to make a warm weather bird think twice, but after seeing the patio I manned-up and dined al fresco.
Okay, the bad news first, it ain’t cheap.
But after that there’s nothing but good to say, they do a strawberry napoleon which is so nasty it is hard to believe that a person would do that to themselves. Hint* when you hear a clink, it means you’ve hit the plate and have to stop eating. Sure you could lick the plate, but probably shouldn’t
I had the daily special, Italian sausage with penne pasta, olive oil and secret herbs and spices, management had a mixed greens salad topped with raspberry vinaigrette and claims it was better than Tuesday night TV. I doubt that, but it must have been good because management never lies.
We ate and talked and lazed in the sun and for old guys had a pretty good time which is hard to do without prosthetic devices and Mentholatum Deep Heat rub.
If you go at night ask for Aryn, she’ll treat you right and make everything smooth and be there when you want her and leave you alone when you don’t and I know that you make a lot more money working at night, but I am old and can’t drive at night so why not give up the money and work the lunch trade so that I can have perfect service instead of those rowdy nighttime folks?
So try Ciccarelli’s. It’s just down the street from Gary’s C2B and you are going there anyway to support a fellow artist so why not have a great lunch and take home the stuff you bought at Gary’s? Take your time and you’ll think of what you didn’t buy and go back to C2B, so it will be worth a long, leisurely lunch.

RETRO
Remember those "growing up years", post World War II through
the 1980’s, when the U.S. was going through decades of growth
and extreme cultural change?
Memorable and classic icons of the times abound in SAGE
Gallery's current "Retro" exhibit. Airplanes, washing machines,
diners, Elvis, and Marilyn, Hot dogs, french fries, cakes and
confections give viewers a “blast from the past” in the works of
local Collage artists: Pat Snyder of Coos Bay, Bandon artists
Susan Lehman, dorothea tortilla, Donna Cox, Molly Dufort, Ava
Richey, Coquille artist Arlene Tinsley, and Langlois artist Sharon
Jensen. These SAGE favorite collage artists are renown for
combining bits and pieces of time into innovative, visually
reflective, cultural statements. Tongue-in-cheek titles and
images fill the gallery; signs of the political times are also
included!
Exhibiting alongside the collage group, Oregon City Artist, Jeannie
Hemming also transports us to the mid 20th century.
Discovering OHIO Art's quintessential drawing tool, the ETCH-A-
SKETCH, at the wise age of 10years old, Jeannie has been
refining her continuous line sketches for over 30 years! Amazingly
complex, Jeannie presents drawings of animals, portraits, fantasy
creatures and more, proving that "Etch-Art" can be more than the
simple straight lines you made as a child.
The public is invited to an artists' reception, Sunday, July 10,
3-5 pm. SAGE Gallery is located at 390 First St. SW, upstairs in
the Historic Coast Guard Building, Old Town Bandon. Hours for
"Retro" will be held by the artists during the month of July,
Fridays 4-8pm, Saturdays 2-6pm, and Sundays 12-4pm. Stop in
to meet these creative individuals and delight in a journey back
through modern history.
Complementing the Retro Exhibit, Jeannie Hemming invites
the public to join her in a workshop:
"Etch-a-Sketch Drawing, for the Young at Heart"
is a creative fundraiser for Bandon's Community Youth Center
being held at Sage Place, Saturday afternoon, July
9th, 3:30 5:30 pm. Learn to design, draw, and "permanentize"
your Etch-sketch; cost is $20 per adult, or $10 for
children, with larger contributions gratefully accepted on behalf of
our youth center. Bring your own "Etch a Sketch" and receive $5
off the workshop cost. Space is limited to 24, pre payment and
registration are required. If the evening workshop fills, a second
event will take place Sunday morning from 11 1pm. Sign up at Sage Place (541) 329 0303.
Jeannie will also be donating one of her original sketches
for a silent auction to benefit the Youth Center.

Why? Why did I start with that name? He isn’t a local; he’s not a BAAA member. He isn’t even alive.
All correct.
Monet gave all artists a wonderful gift. The gift of repetition.
Monet painted the same scene over and over.
How did he do it? Didn’t it get boring? Didn’t it get stale? No, Monet made subtle changes with season and light to give each canvas a new and original look.
S. L. Donaldson’s project, 30 Parks by 30 Artists needs a large dose of Monet. Paint the same, but different. Bring all the tools in your pallet. ‘Cause there are others doing the same thing and if you want to keep up you’ll have to bring your best GAME.
Photographers know all about this. They don’t have the pallet to work with. It takes a change in the season or light or maybe even both to change a scene.
I may have mentioned, I come from Texas, now for those of you who don’t know, Texas is a big place. It has every kind of landscape you could want. Unfortunately these beautiful landscapes are separated by hundreds of miles. You want trees, Texas has’em. They’re in the piney woods of East Texas, two hundred miles from Dallas. You want seascapes, Texas has’em, about three hundred and fifty miles from Dallas. You want vast, arid landscapes which conjure Georgia O’Keefe or Ansel Adams, Texas has’em. They’re out in Big Bend country about four hundred miles from Dallas. What does Dallas have? Banks. You find a way to make banks look interesting, much less artistic, you let me know.
So what? I mention this because in Coos Bay we are lucky; we have the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. You want boats? Throw a rock, you’ll hit one. You want forests? Take a hike. No, I mean take a hike, really. You like people there’s a festival every three weeks and now we have the county fair coming up and there’s Bandon Dunes and the Lighthouse run if you like motorcycles. You like it and we got it.
So what? So this, doing something a second time is the last thing on anyone’s mind around here. There is so much diversity why would you ever paint the same thing twice?
Because it teaches you soooooooooooo much. You want to develop your EYE? Try taking a second look at Sunset Bay. There is plenty to see and the delight of it is that it changes every day. Look wide and you see the sun and the surf pounding away or warming the seals and sea birds on the sand. Look close and you see the rocks giving up their hold on the cliffs to grass and trees. It’s all there. Can you see it?

Demo and Meet and Greet
Ava Richey and Susan Lehman are demonstrating painting and collage techniques this weekend at Second Street Gallery in Old Town Bandon during the gallery's annual summer "Meet and Greet".
We'll have a special display of our work and are there between 11 and 4 on both Saturday, June 25th when Ava will be in the spotlight and then on Sunday, June 26th when Susan will be showing collage.

Hi Everyone,
We continue painting at Coos County parks. Any of you are welcome to join us, even if you are not participating in the "30 Artists / 30 Parks" project.
Mike Ousley has kindly agreed to lead an artists' caravan to the painting spot this week, since I will be working this Monday.

If you would like to carpool / caravan from Bandon to Whiskey Run Beach and Rocky Point Boat Ramp on this coming Monday, June 27th, please meet Mike Ousley at the north end of the parking lot at Ray's Food Place (near Bree's Clothing) at 11:45 a.m.
Painting from 12 - 4 p.m. Bring a lunch and beverages. No restrooms are available at Whiskey Run, but there is a restroom at Rocky Point.
Don't forget to allow time for road construction on the roadways. :)
Directions to Whiskey Run: From Bandon take Hwy 101 north to Seven Devils Road, go west about 3 miles. (Go past Stock Still Lane and Brown Rd.) Turn left at the Whiskey Run sign, it's about a mile to the beach. Do not leave valuables in the car here.
Directions to Rocky Point Boat Ramp: Turn on to North Bank Road at the north end of the Coquille River Bridge (near Bandon). The Boat Ramp will be on your right about 2 miles east of Hwy 101...(it's past the new parking area for the marsh).

Painting from 12 - 4 p.m. Bring a lunch and beverages. No restrooms are available at Whiskey Run, but there is a restroom at Rocky Point.
Don't forget to allow time for road construction on the roadways. :)
Directions to Whiskey Run: From Bandon take Hwy 101 north to Seven Devils Road, go west about 3 miles. (Go past Stock Still Lane and Brown Rd.) Turn left at the Whiskey Run sign, it's about a mile to the beach. Do not leave valuables in the car here.
Directions to Rocky Point Boat Ramp: Turn on to North Bank Road at the north end of the Coquille River Bridge (near Bandon). The Boat Ramp will be on your right about 2 miles east of Hwy 101...(it's past the new parking area for the marsh).

It's Show Time
It’s the one day a year when we allow fathers to have some peace and quiet. Right.
We take the family out to diner, and allow dad to pay, we get dad a tie and charge it to his Visa, we find a new hobby and supply him with everything he needs to dig in, whether he wants to or not or we send him out into the backyard to cook over the open fore like a real cave man.
But he won’t be there forever. What have you done to make him more than a memory when that barbeque final burns down?
We as artists have the gift of talent. We use it all of the time to make images which no one else could make. Does father figure in any of them? Nope, we’d rather do plants or birds or rivers, lakes and streams.
I have a pal. Going through the left-over junk from a recent move a discovery was made. Old pictures of dad doing what he loved best. Now to me that’s a father’s day treat. Seeing dad when he was at his best doing what he loved and having one helluva time.
The rest of the family, no matter how fortunate, how rich, how lucky, they can’t do that:
only you, the artist can do that. You can capture that one image which speaks of more than the look of a man, it tells his story, the story he wanted told. Was he a writer? Ever see a picture of him at his desk? How ‘bout a sailor, fisherman, rock climber, bike rider or even, shock, an artist.
Norman Rockwell iconic American painter and creator of many of the images which we as American believe we created, Rosie the Riveter, Uncle Sam, (Yes it was another artist who created the white-bearded man, but it is the Rockwell image we see, not the James Montgomery Flagg original), and of course Santa Claus. (Yes another guy did that one first too, but ask Woody Guthrie how much good it does you to write the tune if the Kingston Trio is gonna get the hot with it.) And Rockwell also gave us the image of Rockwell peeking around the canvas to paint himself.
Most dads can’t be Norman the Great. They wait and work and dream of undone dreams while paying the bills and sweating out those teenaged years hoping to keep you live to get to the place where it is you looking back a what you haven’t done. Father may Know Best but not for all the credit he gets.
This year make your dad the star of his own legacy. Make a pot, draw a picture, paint a canvas, sculpt a bust, and put your dad’s star on the walk of fame in your own heart.

Ava Richey's Art News
Hi Everyone,
We continue painting at Coos County parks. Any of you are welcome to join us, even if you are not participating in the "30 Artists / 30 Parks" project. We wanted new places to paint this summer, so now we have them. :)
If you would like to carpool / caravan from Bandon to Bastendorff County Park and Charleston County Park on this coming Monday, June 20th, please meet me at the north end of the parking lot at Ray's Food Place (near Bree's Clothing at 11:15 a.m.
Painting from 12 - 4 p.m. Bring a lunch and beverages. Restrooms are available at Bastendorff.
Directions: From Bandon take Hwy 101 north to West Beaver Hill Road (just past the Trash Disposal Center), W. Beaver Hill toward Charleston. Follow the signs toward Shore Acres/Sunset Beach onto Cape Arago Hwy. Before you get to Sunset Beach turnout, you will see a sign directing you to turn right to Bastendorff Beach County Park. Follow the signs up to the County Park.
We will move to Charleston Park later in the afternoon. It is located at the West end of the drawbridge in Charleston, next to the visitor's center and the pottery shop.
Don't forget to allow time for road construction on the roadways. :)

p.s. If painters can please join us Friday, June 24th from 5 - 7:00 p.m. to paint out in Old Town. The merchants will be staying open late until 7 p.m. to welcome golfers, families, and the general public to explore Old Town. It is an opportunity for artists to have a couple of paintings for sale by your easel, and to talk with visitors. If you are shy about painting in front of people, just bring your wares and have fun. Paintings or cards of our beautiful surroundings, and golf courses would be appropriate, and others too.

"Art As Improvisation"
This is a workshop devoted to discovery and to breaking all the rules. We will delve deeply into improvisation and experimentation, learning how some of the best art comes from getting our minds out of the way. Working with basic materials, such as ink and and string, mud and cardboard, we'll gradually build a visual vocabulary by following a set of game-like instructions. We will experiment with drawing, word play, chance operations and outsider techniques, surprising ourselves with the results. On the second day, our projects will be more directed, leading to books, drawings and small sculptures. The process will end with a class exhibition and a discussion about the qualities that contribute to successful art. For all levels of experience. Novice artists will learn many useful methods, and experienced artists will learn new ways to enter their art making.
Sas Colby bio:
Sas Colby has more than forty years of experience making, exhibiting and teaching art. Her innovative workshops are combinations of the nontraditional with a solid grounding in art basics. Sas's mixed media artwork has been exhibited and collected nationally and internationally. A survey exhibition, "Sas Colby, Twenty Years of Book Thinking", traveled from Santa Fe, New Mexico to the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and to Mills College, Oakland, California in 1995. Colby has been a visiting artist in Australian universities and at schools throughout this country. She has inspired many with her ability to make the creative process come alive. We continue painting at Coos County parks. Any of you are welcome to join us, even if you are not participating in the "30 Artists / 30 Parks" project. We wanted new places to paint this summer, so now we have them. :)
If you would like to carpool / caravan from Bandon to Bastendorff County Park and Charleston County Park on this coming Monday, June 20th, please meet me at the north end of the parking lot at Ray's Food Place (near Bree's Clothing at 11:15 a.m.
Painting from 12 - 4 p.m. Bring a lunch and beverages. Restrooms are available at Bastendorff.
Directions: From Bandon take Hwy 101 north to West Beaver Hill Road (just past the Trash Disposal Center), W. Beaver Hill toward Charleston. Follow the signs toward Shore Acres/Sunset Beach onto Cape Arago Hwy. Before you get to Sunset Beach turnout, you will see a sign directing you to turn right to Bastendorff Beach County Park. Follow the signs up to the County Park.
We will move to Charleston Park later in the afternoon. It is located at the West end of the drawbridge in Charleston, next to the visitor's center and the pottery shop.
Don't forget to allow time for road construction on the roadways. :)

Masks is an all media exhibition that is open to all artists, nationally and internationally. Masks have long served as a symbol and a tool for concealment, protection, amusement and performance. Artists are being asked to create work based on the theme of masks, literally and conceptually. Brittany Lawrence Yam is the Director of Project 4 Gallery in Washington, DC. Yam worked for the Arlington Arts Center before leaving the DC area for Pittsburgh, PA where she attended Carnegie Mellon University, earning a Master of Arts Management in 2010. During her last year of graduate school, Yam worked for the Foundation for the National Archives. In her spare time she continues to create work at David Freeberg's studio in McLean, VA.

One in a Million
Have you been to that fancy French department store? Yeah, that one, with the red and white bulls-eye? Yeah, Tarjey.
Okay we all do it, if you want to make a thing sound better than it is just give it a French twist. Well, they are rude and snotty and think that they are so much better than their poor English-speaking sods, but they still need us to get them out of jams, but boy can they bake.
And they make anything sound better because we English-speaking guys have a bit of an inferiority complex. Com-on, just take a look at Larry the Cable Guy and you'll know all there is to know about why.
And that boys and girls is exactly what Jack Duganne thought, make it sound French and everyone will forget it's an ink jet print. It worked and now we say with pride Giclee just like that was a different thing from a print we run off on our home printer.
It is different, but the process isn't, Giclee is still an ink jet print.
So who cares? You do. You should care, you should be grateful to ole Jack and Epson and smile knowing that your precious work so lovingly drawn out with blood, sweat, toil and tears can be safeguarded from the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or at least Oregon weather.
You have enough space to store all your work? Aren't you special. The rest of us will just dig out the closet stretcher and cram a few more works into the coat closet.
That's the problem. It is far easier to create work than it is to sell it. I have a file full of motorcycle pictures I did for the Thunder show, (Which is fantastic, if you haven't seen it and why haven't you and you'd better get in line cause they are coming in in droves, did you hear me droves and you might have to fight your way up the steps and all those guys in black leather can make fighting up steps a tricky thing, so just stand in line like a regular person and wait your turn). I don't really know what I'm going to do with the ones I printed and framed. I might just give them to the Coos Bay Harley shop. If I don't it's the closet for sure.
And what if you are one of the lucky ones? One of the guys who never have enough stock to fill a gallery even if you were asked? What do you do when a client asks what you have done and can they see it?
It's that French word which means ink jet. That's right Giclee. It can be your best friend. Say you want to do a promotion. Do you offer one of your painstakingly wrought masterpieces or do you just get by with a coupon? I'd want a Giclee. I could live with giving away a Giclee, but not one of my master prints. And that client, a folder full of Giclees is a lot easier than dragging out a dozen framed pieces especially when you work gallery-size.
I had a terrifying experience last week. My hard drive died. You may have heard about this before. If I had a set of good Giclees, I wouldn't be nearly so frantic. You can re-create a work from a good Giclee. Try that from a half-century plus memory and see what you get. If your work means anything to you you owe it to yourself and your gifts to have giclees made of each project as you finish it. Then when disaster strikes you can laugh.

I have a file full of motorcycle pictures I did for the Thunder show, (Which is fantastic, if you haven't seen it and why haven't you and you'd better get in line cause they are coming in in droves, did you hear me droves and you might have to fight your way up the steps and all those guys in black leather can make fighting up steps a tricky thing, so just stand in line like a regular person and wait your turn). I don't really know what I'm going to do with the ones I printed and framed. I might just give them to the Coos Bay Harley shop. If I don't it's the closet for sure.
And what if you are one of the lucky ones? One of the guys who never have enough stock to fill a gallery even if you were asked? What do you do when a client asks what you have done and can they see it?
It's that French word which means ink jet. That's right Giclee. It can be your best friend. Say you want to do a promotion. Do you offer one of your painstakingly wrought masterpieces or do you just get by with a coupon? I'd want a Giclee. I could live with giving away a Giclee, but not one of my master prints. And that client, a folder full of Giclees is a lot easier than dragging out a dozen framed pieces especially when you work gallery-size.
I had a terrifying experience last week. My hard drive died. You may have heard about this before. If I had a set of good Giclees, I wouldn't be nearly so frantic. You can re-create a work from a good Giclee. Try that from a half-century plus memory and see what you get. If your work means anything to you you owe it to yourself and your gifts to have giclees made of each project as you finish it. Then when disaster strikes you can laugh.

My precious, precious...
This was not a kindly week. The Motorcycle show was opening at CAM, I was trying to organize my entries for the next show and my hard drive crashed.
Yes, my hard drive died.
I know, with today's technology you just never think about a hard drive crashing. I mean the things last forever and crank up whenever you turn on the computer so why think about them? I had plenty of warnings now that I look back in perfect twenty-twenty hindsight. A coupla months ago I got a rattle at startup. That should have been enough. Then it became a whir, like a World War I fighter idling in the misty dawn before a long flight over the trenches. Then it died.
I mean it died. There was no last, final, penultimate warning, I was loading a CD and started having trouble with Windows Media Player and then Black Screen. Right, not even a nice Blue Screen of death, the thing shut down. I fought it for the rest of the day, but I couldn't get it to run long enough to do a diagnostic. So I asked for an extra serving of crow and took it to the nice folks at Comp-U-Talk. The Computer Ace shot down and left smoking...
Now why would I bother you with this drivel in a blog about art? Because like it or not most of us in the art world have at least some of our most precious stuff on the computer, if it crashes, world of hurt time. I want to make sure you don't have that nightmare moment like I did last week when suddenly you are looking at a dark screen and wondering just when you did your last backup.
You are doing backups?
I know one more thing to have to remember, but you do have to do it. I found myself, sweating for three long days wondering how much I would lose if they couldn't get it back up and running because you see, I did my last backup ninety days ago. Yep shame on me. Woe is me. And smack up side of head with a heavy object I should have been doing it every week!
You see I forgot the prime directive, backup anything you want to see ever again.
I was lucky, Hogwarts' Computer Repair and Software Alchemy, managed to get the beast to run, transfer my data and install and newer and MUCH BIGGER hard drive. So I dodged the bullet. But it could have been bad.
Why wasn't I doing backups? The same ole reason, too busy, too distracted, too stupid. I let the motorcycle show take up all of my time. I said if I can just keep getting the blog posted and the art site built and the show running on schedule I can catch up when the opening is over. Sounds like I am an essential cog in the CAM wheel doesn't it? I ain't, I'm not even a necessary cog, I might even be incognito, that's how important I am.
And I let it eat up all of my time and I didn't do what I needed to do. Then my hard drive crashed.
Come to Jesus meeting! I got religion, almost too late, but still I got it.
So now I'm gonna preach to you. And if you got enough from your pastor over the weekend, now's the time to slip out the back.
You have to back up your files. And now it is easier than turning on a light switch. Okay maybe it isn’t but it is pretty close.
If you have a lot of precious files or if your old computer is running out of space there’s a nifty little thing called an external hard drive. I like the Western Digital Passport 500GB. It is small enough to slip into a pocket and large enough to store all of your video files. That’s right the video clip you downloaded from You Tube of Sonny and Cher singing “I’ve Got You babe.” And it is USB 2.0 and 3.0 in the same package. Makes you ready now and ready for the next generation.
The Passport is USB so it plugs in, loads the necessary drivers and is ready to go in less than a minute. Now here’s the only catch, it wants to install its own software. If you hate backing up and just won’t do it, it’s a good thing. If you have half a brain and really want to know what’s going on in your hard drive, don’t. The software is good and will do the job, but I like to think with something as easy as USB technology you can do it all by yourself.
So decline to install. That’s it. You are done and every time you connect the drive it will load all by itself. It shows up as a separate hard drive, on my machine it would be E, but just click on My Computer and have a look and you’ll find it. When you do use it just like you would any other drive. Drag and Drop any file you want to save. It will copy it to the Passport and leave the original drive alone.
And if you are one of those guys who have loaded up your drive with all sorts of things, copy to the Passport and delete it from your internal hard drive. And when you unplug it and put it away in a drawer it will be there when you come back. Anytime you need to backup a file just Drag and Drop to the Passport. It will overwrite the previous file including any new material with what you had there to begin with, now you don’t need no stinking backup to do that, do you?
There’s a lot of bad stuff out there, virus, Trojans, worms, pilot error and drive failure, don’t get caught like I did and spend half a week sweating it out, Get a back up drive and cruse the Net with nary a care.

Thunder At CAM
Friday night there was thunder, thunder, not on Thunder Road, but at the Coos Art Museum as the Thunder at CAM had its opening night. Over two hundred people attended and the display of bikes and bike art filled the museum.
From the moment the doors opened, the motorcycle enthusiasts filled the halls.
Stephen Broocks was on hand to greet the throngs...
Carla Ray guided the traffic...
People waited patiently to get into the main gallery...
There was dress inspection...
Spirited art...
Del and Daryl keep track of the comings and goings...
Past Presidents were in the crowd...
Mike was everywhere...
The Man in the Carpeted Office never left the floor...
There were libations...
Even Dutch took a look...
The Three Fates discussed the presentation...
Some had to take a closer look...
One last glance but don't fret the show runs through July 23rd.

You don't have to be a Coos County resident to join in. The challenge is to paint 30 Coos County Parks (or as many as you possibly can get to) on paper that is provided by the show producer S.L. Donaldson. No matting or framing required. Costs are underwritten by a grant from the Coos County Cultural Coalition.

As part of the July 9th Coquille Garden Tour & Midsummer Romp, a juried competition with Four Cash Prizes--$200, $100 and 4 $25 prizes in each of 4 categories. Create a miniature garden inspired by your choice of book, poem, nursery rhyme or song.
Coquille's downtown businesses will make space for display on their sidewalks or in their windows. $10 entry fee for adults, $5 entry fee for 18 and under.

Requires original digital artwork produced on the computer. Please respect copyright laws. We are looking for art that goes beyond common color and/or filter enhanced photography.
Enter 1 - 3 pieces per artist, framed and ready to hang, or matted and ready to hang.
Minimum size 8" x 10" excluding frame & mat. No maximum size (within reason).
Entry Fee: None. Theme: Open, your choice--no nudity or morbidity will be accepted.
Deliver art to Hospital at 9:00 a.m. on October 5, 2011.

Several of us are participating in the "30 Parks by 30 Artists" show, so I will be scheduling paintouts at Coos County Parks for the next few weeks. Because there are more parks than there are Mondays between now and Aug. 22nd, I'll give you a schedule now so you can know the whole plan. There may be changes as we work things out. :)
We will be visiting these areas, sometimes painting, sometimes photographing.
We will meet to carpool or caravan at Ray's parking lot, north end by Bree's...time announced each week--depends on where we are going that week.

Please share your photos so we have the opportunity to paint all 30 parks, in case someone doesn't have time to get there.

I would like to encourage artists to participate in the "30 Parks by 30 Artists" show.
You don't have to be a Coos County resident to join in. The challenge is to paint 30 Coos County Parks (or as many as you possibly can get to) on paper that is provided by the show producer S.L. Donaldson. No matting or framing required. Costs are underwritten by a grant from the Coos County Cultural Coalition.
