Celebrate

This August the Port of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay rail line will be celebrating 100 years of service with a special three-day Railroad Centennial Celebration! We are currently looking for a number of volunteers to help with the event which will be taking place August 5-7. Both North Bend and Coos Bay will host a day of activities as well as Coos County. There will be train rides all three days, as well as water sports, music, and more. Volunteers will need to attend two training meetings, one will be held on July 22 nd and the other will be on August 4 th (times are TBD). We are looking to have at least 10 volunteers per shift in case of last minute changes or withdrawals. Volunteers can choose between working a single shift or multiple shifts throughout the three days, there are 7 shifts in total. Volunteers will receive special shirts to wear as well as passes to ride the trains!

August 5th, Friday: Shifts 1 & 2
Shift 1: The first train ride will load at 8:30am in North Bend and the second train will unload at 1:30pm
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car
Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car
Shift 2: Load time will be 1:30pm at North Bend to the last unload at 4:00pm, the opening ceremony will start at 5:00pm ceremony: may require some heavy lifting and crowd control for the second part of the shift. Volunteers for this shift will also help with switching out area for the opening
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car
Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car

August 6th, Saturday: Shifts 3 & 4
Shift 3: The first train loading at Coos Bay time will be 8:30am and the second unload time will be at 12:30pm:
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed
Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car

Shift 4: Train loading time of at Coos Bay 12:30pm and the last unload is scheduled for 4:30pm
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed
Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car

August 7th, Sunday: Shifts 5, 6, & 7
Shift 5: Train loading at 8:30am at Mill Casino with the second unload time being 12:30pm
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed
Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car

Shift 6: Load time will start at 12:30pm and unloading will be at 4:30pm
Crowd Control – 2-4 volunteers needed
Ticket Takers – 3 total, 1 per train car Onboard assistant – 3 total, 1 per train car

Shift 7: This will be the closing ceremony at the Mill Casino, ceremony will start at 5:00pm
*Volunteers will need to help with crowd control as well as set-up and take-down of ceremony equipment. Heavy lifting may be required. *
