“Gift of Art”

Second Street Gallery in Old Town Bandon is showcasing local

artists through its “Gift of Art” Christmas program

which runs weekends until Christmas. The program allows

patrons to learn about various art forms and watch as it is

being created utilizing a wide variety of media.

On Saturday, December 10th & Sunday, December 11th, Jan

Payne will be creating stained glass work which emanates

“a feeling of life” in each piece. To this end, Jan

seeks to transform various colors and textures of glass into

living expressions. “I search for the perfect piece of

glass to maximize the realism of each work” exclaims

Payne. Jan prefers to work using the lead came process but

often chooses to use copper foil to achieve more intricate

detail needed for certain pieces.

Joining Jan will be local wood carver Robert Gates. Coming

from a background of landscape design, Gates describes his

carvings as “realistic and impressionistic, combined in a

freestyle approach to wood carving”. His favorite subjects

are the shore birds that dot our beautiful coastline. Robert

hopes that his pieces, combining shape, grain, texture and

color will speak to you and add a new dimension to your home

or office environment.

Second Street Gallery is located in the heart Old Town
