Take a Lesson

Our U. S Women have set a standard which will be hard to live up to, both for those who love and play the game, and for those of us who merely watch, with trembling anticipation and doubts, waiting for the final whistle. But they have also given us in the art world a set of memories which can be worked into brilliant art with just a little imagination.

And even if you don't find the choices the AP guys made, in that heated moment when the ball was in the air and the goal was in the balance, appealing, remember there are hundreds of Abbys, Megans, Laurens and Hopes, playing near you every week. Take a camera, take an easel, take yourself and go, they will one day play for the world and this is your chance to get them while they are so young they won't even look up from the pitch to see what you are doing.

Sports photography has long been a cherished part of the American popular culture and Leroy Neiman made a buck or two painting sports. Head out to the nearest futbol field and see if you can't catch the next Abby before she sprouts wings and flies.

Art is what you make of it, and our U. S. Women made some pretty spectacular images.
