Paying Attention to the Folks Behind the Curtain

Today in beautiful downtown Coos Bay, the Coos Art Museum paid attention to all of the people who work in silence to make sure the museum keeps it doors open and the patrons happy, the volunteers.

Most people think that a volunteer is an unpaid retiree with nothing but time on their hands desperately looking for some way to stay busy while waiting on the last bus. Not these guys, they paint, they clean, they greet, they administrate, they art, they party, they laugh, they cry and that's not just when the annual budget comes in, these guys are the heart and soul of the museum.

Some of the faces are familiar, some are not, some want to be recognized and some do not, but they all work. And if you don't believe that why haven't you volunteered? It takes more than just talking about it to be a volunteer.

So take a look, are the faces familiar? is yours one of them?

Pamela Rose was there, greeting the flock...

Some had a word or two to contribute...

There was a goodly crowd...

Some went straight to their work...

While some just stood in line...

There were men of sunstance...

Men of the Arts...

Some played their cards close to the vest...

While some were caught up in the crowd...

There were important conversations...

and just happy talk...

there was food...

and intense concentration...

and the Man in the Carpeted Office did us all proud.
