Special April 16 Contra Dance at Greenacres

There will be a Spring Contra Dance at the Greenacres Grange Hall on Saturday evening, April 16 from 7-10PM.  The public is invited to join the South Coast Folk Society for three hours of dancing to great live music by the band Cultural Ecology of Coos Bay.  Cultural Ecology was formed in the summer of 2013 at the South Coast Folk Dance Festival. The band is committed to building a healthier planet by providing the best contra and folk dance music possible.  This will be the band’s only contra dance performance this year. Cultural Ecology consists of musicians Sharon Rogers, Tom Purvis, Marty Giles, Gail Elber, Alayne Olmsted and Stacy Rose.

For this special event, a guest caller from Roseburg, Woody Lane, will teach every move and figure you need to know.  Woody is a highly experienced caller with an exciting repertoire of dances.  His dances are appropriate for all ages and skill levels.  He will give a lesson at 7PM, and first timers who show up for this lesson will receive a ticket for free admission to their next dance.  Wear your dancing shoes, casual clothes, and a big smile.

Contra dancing is great fun for singles, couples, and families.  This event is alcohol and fragrance free.  Refreshments are available.  Doors open at 6:45PM.  Admission: General $7, Students w/ID and Seniors over 60 $6, Members $5, and Supervised Children under 6 are free.
