Guache not Squash

January 2016 at the Bandon Library Art Gallery:
The exquisitely detailed, beautifully realized birds painted in guache by Ken Michaelson are the works of a master. The iridescent sheen of a mallard's head, or the light in a golden eye are brought to vivid life in these paintings. Also on display are his rarer, equally rich, oil paintings of scenes of the natural world.
In the cases, Ginny Gibson's small clay figures make delightful tableaux of everyday life: the pleasures of reading outdoors, visiting with a friend, a beloved dog's companionship. These little scenes crystalize the emotion of such familiar moments, while avoiding sentimentality or kitsch. Her handmade tiles and other objects will accompany the figures.
The show runs from the 1st through the 31st of January. There will be a reception for the artists on Sunday, January 3rd, from 1-3 pm, in the Sprague Room; Ken Michaelson prints and originals will be available for purchase.
