Reduction Linocut Printmaking Workshop with
Pat Snyder at the Arts Center

In this workshop, students will learn techniques for the relief printmaking process using the flexibility and ease of linoleum. Since linoleum offers an easier surface for working, linocuts allow more precision and a greater variety of linear and textural effects.

Reduction Linocuts achieve multiple colors while using a single plate/block. The limitation is that there are a finite number of prints that can be made and that number is decided at the outset. Linocut printmaking can be very simple, and is an ideal medium for the print-maker without a press. They can also be taken to many levels from simple bold to extreme intricacy.

There will be basic demonstrations showing methods for transferring the image to the plate, cutting with gouges and blades, and printing with brayer, baren and selected papers.

The 3pm time can be extended if some students need extra printing time.

Did You Know?
The next gallery exhibit in the Hallie Brown Ford gallery is "Printmakers on Paper from the Coos Art Museum Collection"!

Thanks to the collaboration and vision of Pat Snyder from Coos Bay, UVAA member and Coos Art Museum(CAM) member, CAM is releasing hand picked pieces of artwork from their Printmakers Collection to be displayed here for our communities education and enjoyment!

In preparation of its arrival, Pat Snyder, whose Master of Arts education emphasis was on printmaking, and who continually teaches and inspires printmaking to those up and down the coastline, has agreed to offer a linocut workshop here too!

Don't miss out on the workshop or the opening of the Printmakers exhibit!
