Live Music by local musicians: “Take Five”
Community Contra Dance in Coos Bay this Saturday
Contra dancing is coming to Coos Bay this Saturday, November 7, at 7 o’clock. This light-hearted form of social dancing is easy to learn, and lots of fun for the whole family. There will be three hours of live music at the Harding Learning Center on South 7th for this special event. A guest caller from Portland, Silas Minyard, will teach you every move and figure you need to know. Silas is an experienced caller with an exciting repertoire of dances. He will give a lesson at 7PM, and first timers who show up for this lesson will receive a ticket for free admission to their next dance.
Contra dancing in Coos Bay is sponsored by the South Coast Folk Society. They invite the public to enjoy a full evening of contra, circle and square dances. Singles, couples and families are all welcome, and no partner is needed. The music for this month’s Community Contra Dance party will be provided by Take Five, a new local band of five very skilled musicians. Come dance to the music of Don Berg on guitar, Alayne Olmstead on fiddle, Stacy Rose on hammer dulcimer, Gail Elber on guitar, and Karen Olsen on concertina. Their energetic tunes will have you toe tappin’ a lively do-se-do. Join the fun.
This monthly event is hosted by the non-profit South Coast Folk Society. They hold Contra Dance parties every first Saturday at the Harding Learning Center, and every third Saturday at the Greenacres Grange. Both venues offer a full evening of social dancing to great live music. These events are alcohol and fragrance free. Refreshments are available. Doors open at 6:45PM. Admission: General $7, Students w/ID and Seniors over 60 $6, Members $5, and Supervised Children under 6 are free.
