See-Session

THE SESSION IS BACK!
After its summer hiatus (and a SurveyMonkey poll to find out what people wanted), traditional music sessions are back at Liberty Pub, 2047 Sherman Ave., North Bend, on Wednesdays. The sessions have been divided into an Irish session and a contra session.

Irish Session – First Wednesday 7-9 pm
Contra Session – Third Wednesday 7-9 pm
Old-Time Session – Fifth Wednesday 7-9 pm (there's a fifth Wednesday four times a year)

All held at Liberty Pub, these will be open sessions for intermediate to advanced musicians with experience playing traditional dance music. The pace will be lively, and melody players will lead tunes or tune sets from their own repertoires. Musicians play from memory or by ear and over time a common repertoire will be fostered. Because the chord structure of many tunes can be ambiguous, chances of two backup players picking the same chords is very small. For this reason, we limit to only one strummed backup instrument playing at a time. [String players can pick a melody along with the fiddles/flutes etc.) One drummer/rhythm percussion player at a time.

These are instrumental sessions. Got a pub song? Come to the sing-along on second Sundays, 4-6 p.m., at the North Bend Library, and teach it to us!

Daunted by the prospect of playing by ear or from memory? After Folk Week, we're going to start yet another session for those who like to play from music. Best of all, it'll be at a non-pub location so people under 21 can attend.

BRING A FRIEND TO FOLK WEEK!
Seriously, if you don't know about South Coast Folk Week by now, where have you been? Go here to learn all about it: http://wordpress.us10.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=727bcda7b9a3cb6201829cfc7&id=577ba78ae8&e=47261c8db2. Then mark your calendar for Oct. 4-10. There are workshops for song leaders, dancers, musicians, and aspiring callers. There are also public sing-alongs and contra dances. Admission to everything is by donation, but we'll soon open Eventbrite registration for the workshops so that we have an idea of how many people are coming. But really, just showing up is fine. Who are you bringing? Because if you bring a friend who has never been to a contra dance to a Folk Week event, you'll both get a free ticket to the October or November contra dance.
