Let's start things off with a mild opportunity... Dutch Brothers is sponsoring a contest to design their next gift card. The reward? A month of free coffee or other enticements. Yeah, I know it won't pay the rent or get you a credit line in Pacific Artist magazine, but free coffee for a month? That could run them into bankruptcy. Apparently they don't know that artists are not morning people. Then there's the other incentive, do you really want some slacker from the street to win the award? Sure there are lots of talented people out there and most of them don't think of themselves as artists, but just anyone, winning a design award? Com'on, pickup your brushes, pens, watercolors, pastels, crayons and do a design. The worst thing that can happen is that you'll get a bit of mental exercise. And the best, well there's your work on every gift card sold by Dutch Brothers, hmmmmmm, that could be a better opportunity than spray painting your name on the empty buildings and over passes!
