POLITICAL THEATER FROM THE #METOO AND #TIMESUP MOVEMENTS SET WITH STAGED READING OF THEATRE UNCUT: THE POWER PLAYS COMING TO SO IT GOES COFFEEHOUSE
Theatre Uncut is back with THE POWER PLAYS: a new series of brand-new of short plays written by some of the UK's most dynamic female playwrights exploring the theme of power from the female perspective.
Responding to current gender politics, including the #timesup and #metoo movements, the confirmed writers are diverse and wide-ranging in their backgrounds and professional experience.
This marks the second year that So It Goes Coffeehouse has participated in the monthlong series of international performances of the pieces. The subject changes each year.
"As the world rocks with the fierce debate around gender equality, we wanted set our writers the challenge to explore the theme of power from the female perspective. We are delighted to be working with a collection of the UK's most dynamic playwrights, some who have written for Theatre Uncut before and some for the first time. We can't wait to see how people use the plays to take part in the global debate, joining with Theatre Uncut at this immensely exciting moment in history." - Hannah Price and Emma Callander, Co-Artistic Directors of Theatre Uncut
On Friday June 22nd at 7pm a staged reading of the plays will be performed at So It Goes Coffeehouse, 190 Central, Downtown Coos Bay. The event will be free and discussion encouraged.
Theatre Uncut aims to provoke debate and galvanise action by making new political theatre available for everyone, everywhere.
