THE OUTSTANDING OPEN BAND
And dance calling
by KAREN OLSEN from North Bend
Free Public Contra
Dance at Sixes Grange on Saturday, JUNE 16
The Curry
County Cultural Coalition is pleased to announce another free public Curry
Contra Dance at the Sixes Grange Hall on Saturday evening, June 16 from 7 – 10 p.m. !
Did you
miss the first Curry Contra Dance at the Sixes Grange in April? Over
70 folks of all ages had an old fashioned good time, gathering as a community
to enjoy dance, live music, and each other!
Don’t miss
the next dance, coming up on June 16. The South Coast Folk Society
will bring back The Outstanding Open Band, with over a dozen very talented
musicians all from the South Coast . Karen
Olsen, a skilled caller with many years of experience, will teach, and then
call all the dances. Side of the Tide Morris Dances will also provide
entertainment during the break.
Don’t fret
if you can’t bring a partner to dance! A partner will be found for
you. Even if you do come with a dancing partner, at a Contra Dance
you can exchange partners regularly. Singles, couples and families
can all enjoy contra dancing. And don’t worry if you don’t know how
to do this sort of dancing: at the last event, almost half of the
attendees (including little grade school kids) had never contra danced before,
were taught the moves, and had a great time!
Put on your
dancing shoes, wear light comfortable clothing, and come and dance with us!
How blessed we are to have the Curry County Cultural Coalition and
the Oregon Cultural Trust to bring Contra Dancing to our
community! Doors open at 6:45 , and
refreshments will be served. For information on the Curry Contra
Dances call Kristi at 541-332-9295 or Jo at 541-348-2174.
The South Coast Folk Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit
organization, dedicated to the preservation, study, teaching, enjoyment, and
continuing evolution of traditional and historical dance, music and
song. Thank You.
