Saturday, Dec. 5: Special treat: Enjoy the old-timey music of the Barnstormers fromEugene starting at 4
p.m. at the Blue Moon Saloon, 871 S. Broadway, Coos Bay .
Saturday, Dec. 5: Contra dance,7 p.m. , Harding Learning Center , 755 South Seventh St. , Coos Bay . Caller, Woody Lane ; band, the
Barnstormers.
Sunday, Dec. 13: Second Sunday Sing-Along, North Bend Public Library,4-6 p.m.
Jan 2:Harding Learning Center with caller Brooke
Friendly; music by the Outstanding Open Band — special event: English Country
Dance workshop from 3-5 p.m. , followed by the
dance from 7-10 p.m.
NOT A FOLK SOCIETY EVENT, BUT STILL INTERESTING
An exhibit called "Musical Instruments @ Coos Art Museum" will start Friday, Dec. 11 and run through Feb. 13 in the Uno Richter Atrium Gallery at the museum. Curated by Gail Elber, the exhibit brings together instruments by 10Oregon makers. Bring a tablet or smartphone
and your earbuds and watch a video about each instrument in the gallery. The
opening reception is 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
Throughout the exhibit, some of the makers will be at the museum 1-4 p.m. on Saturday afternoons for "play
days" with their instruments and presentations about their work.
Visit coosart.org after Dec. 11 to see the videos and the schedule of presentations,
as well as the museum's hours. Normal museum admission charges apply.

Rebecca Urlacher, guitars (no presentation)
Lynn Berg, Hardinger fiddles and violins (Dec. 19 presentation)
Doc Slyter, Native American flutes (Jan. 8 presentation)
Duke and Danielle Summers, Native American drums (will teach a class in how to make them, TBA)
Nick Metcalf, Irish whistles and flutes (no presentation)
Bryan Ibach, mandolins (presentation TBA)
Mark Tierney, guitars (presentation TBA)
Fred Schacher, violins (presentation TBA)
Les Stansell, ukuleles (Feb. 13 presentation)
Also, award-winning Sunset Middle School teacher Nick Krissie, will teach a class in making traditional American "diddley bows," date TBA. Cigar-box guitars made by his fifth-grade students will also be on display in the gallery.
