Join Guild of Natural Science Illustrator, Marly Beyer at the Coos Art Museum on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 & October 1, 10am to 5pm for Looking Closely at the Natural World-An Introduction to Scientific Illustration. This 2-day workshop will provide an introduction to traditional scientific illustration techniques. Students will learn how to accurately represent botanical and zoological specimens using graphite, pen and ink, and watercolor. Class time will cover the history and importance of scientific illustration, methods of collecting references, demonstrations of different media, and how to compose a final illustration. Students will have the opportunity to work in the field and gather their own reference material and will come away with an improved understanding of how to carefully render detailed natural specimens.

Important notes: Materials required for class are as follows: Graphite pencils (H, 2B, 4B), watercolors and small watercolor brushes (00-4), and watercolor paper (hot press).
