Contra Dance September 19 at Greenacres Grange
All are welcome at the Greenacres Grange Hall on Saturday, September 19, for an evening of light-hearted, easy-to-learn social dancing. Beginners, singles and families can all join in. The fun begins at 7PM with a full lesson by our guest caller, Ron Bell-Roemer of Bend, followed by three hours of contra and circle dances. Ron will teach and call a variety of interesting dances throughout the evening. He is a local favorite and is known for his clear and precise calling style that sweeps in first-time dancers quickly and gives center stage to the music. First timers who arrive in time for the 7PM lesson will receive a ticket for free admission to their next dance.
The music for this month’s contra dance party will be provided by Rhy and Jackie Thornton of North Bend. Rhy and Jackie provide the powerful fiddle playing and dynamic keyboarding of the group Rogue Rebellion. Together, they will fill the hall with a variety of wonderful old timey, swing fiddle and fancy guitar playing tunes. You can expect danceable sets from smooth jigs, to swing, to rockin’ reels and back.
This public event is sponsored by the non-profit South Coast Folk Society. Contra dancing is fun for singles, couples, and families. Join us every third Saturday at Greenacres for an evening social dancing to great live music. This event is alcohol and fragrance free. Refreshments are available. Doors open at 6:45PM.
