Pop Goes the Artist

Deryl, hi!

I am a member of Coos Art Museum and my husband and I have both shown our work there.  We live in the Tillamook area (Netarts), but have plans to retire to Roseburg, where we own a condo.  I currently have work in the Sales/Rental Gallery at CAM.  Our good friend, Jon Leach, also a CAM member and a frequent exhibitor there, is participating in our show.   I tell you all of this so that it doesn't seem completely random that you are getting a notice about Tillamook's 1st Pop Up show!  Bruce and I and three other artists have organized the show, scheduled to open August 14th.  Attached is the invitation, in hopes that you will send it to your mailing list...you never know, there may be people planning a trip to the north coast in August!
Thank you so much for your consideration!

A-Muse-ing

Beat the heat and see stuff neat and give yourself a treat by going to the Music as the Muse show at Southern Coos Hospital.

Not just because the ole Trawler and the Long Sufferin have their art up but because there will be dozens, hundreds thousands, okay maybe I shoulda stopped at dozens of other wonderful artists works on display.

Adding to your Confusion

From: Stephanie Donaldson [mailto:sldonaldson@coosart.org]

To: Stephanie Donaldson
Subject: FW: Call to Artists: A Sense of Place

Hello again everyone,

Yesterday I was made aware of some confusion and/or questions about this project and exhibition.  “A Sense of Place” is open to everyone for participation.

You do not have to be a Coos Bay/North Bend/Charleston resident in order to participate.  Apparently my Call to Artists did not articulate that very well.  My apologies for that.

The subject matter, however, does have to be of the Coos Bay/North Bend/Charleston area.

Please contact me if there are further questions. (541) 267-3901 ext. 105.

Subject: Call to Artists: A Sense of Place

Hello Fellow Artists,

As some of you may remember, I curated a project titled “30 Parks by 30 Artists” back in 2011 which showcased the majority of our Coos County Parks.  Through the concerted effort of some truly amazing local artists, well over 700 paintings were created and displayed.

Steven has asked me to curate an upcoming exhibit here at Coos Art Museum titled “A Sense of Place”.  The theme is the brainchild of Coos Bay Mayor Crystal Shoji and Coos Bay City Councilor Tom Leahy.  It is important to note that although they both represent Coos Bay, the goal of this exhibition is to encompass all that defines the “Bay Area” and includes Coos Bay, North Bend, and Charleston.

A Sense of Place exhibition takes place October through December (see the call to artists for details).  Here’s the similarity with the 30 Parks project….each person (whether artist or not) that signs up receives an 8x10 art board and a map.  And then it’s up to you to find the ONE thing that defines this area.  It can be the old Hotel North Bend.  The Tioga Building in Coos Bay.  And this project is not restricted to just painting buildings and landscapes.  If it’s the fishermen on the docks in Charleston that define the “Bay Area” for you, then by all means, that is what you should capture.  Any media that can be done on the art board is acceptable!

Please join me in this fun, creative way of celebrating where we live.  In the end, 50 completely unique artistic definitions of Bay Area will be displayed at CAM.

The art board and map are available in the CAM Lobby during the hours listed below.

Srudio Scraps

Hi All,

Art by the Sea Gallery is holding our annual PedWay Sale of pre-owned art and craft supplies on Saturday, August 15 at 10 a.m.

This is a fundraiser for the gallery to help us keep art and classes available in Old Town.

If you would like to help out, please clean out your studio and donate things you no longer use.
Please put things in a box marked “For Pedway Sale” and drop them off at the gallery at 175 2nd St SE in Continuum Building, Old Town Bandon.
Another creative person will enjoy making something with them, and you will enjoy having less clutter in your studio.

We appreciate your support in all the ways you help.

(We are not a non-profit so your donations are not a tax write-off.)

Thank you for coming to the gallery, buying art and taking classes, as well as the donations.

Sincerely,

Members of Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio

The instructor will provide illustrations and short lectures on the elements and principles of design, as well as guidance on how to critique your own artwork throughout the creative process.  Techniques for using tools, fundamentals of color mixing, and achieving harmonious composition by defining shapes and providing balance will also be discussed.

Hyon Fielding’s qualifications include being a watercolor journaling instructor for the Oregon Paleo Lands Institute, instructor for the Watercolor Society of Oregon and teaching classes for various regional art guilds and private individuals.  For more information about her numerous awards and exhibitions, visit www.hyonfieldingstudio.com.
