Music wine and Dine

Music and wine are on tap for this month’s Alive After Five on August 19th, 2016 from 5 to 7:30 PM. Second Street Gallery, will be welcoming guest musicians Lisa Carman and Candace may be jamming a bit with her. Folks may remember Lisa when she was guest director the Bandon Playhouse production of Godspell! She’s an award winning songstress from New Mexico.

Meet Artist/Jeweler Crystal Landucci

Jewelry designer Crystal Landucci will be the featured artist for the "Meet & Greet" at Second Street Gallery in Bandon this Saturday, August 20, from noon to 4pm. Landucci will set up a mini-jewelry workshop in the gallery and will be working on a number of pieces with her collection of beautiful beads & baubles charged by her creative imagination.

Landucci's pieces incorporate hand-forged sterling silver, brass, and bronze wire and sheet metal as well as semi-precious stones and found objects such as nuts and bolts, coins, charms, teeth, game tokens, and assorted flotsam and jetsam.   "I like jewelry that is entertaining and meaningful to the wearer - and, of course, it has to be beautiful too!"

Crystal is mostly self-taught  but has also taken classes from Kristin Mitsu Shiga at Oregon College of Arts and Crafts in Portland and Veneta Stender and Anne Sobbota at Sage Gallery in Bandon.  She was "hugely inspired” by attending a show of Alexander Calder's work in New York  City that included many of his jewelry and circus themed pieces a few years back.  Her work can be seen exclusively at Second Street Gallery in Bandon.

Pulp Bard

"PRITHEE, DIDST I BREAK THY CONCENTRATION?"
AUDITIONS FOR PULP SHAKESPEARE
So It Goes Coffeehouse announces auditions for PULP SHAKESPEARE, a Shakespearean satire of Pulp Fiction adapted and directed by John Beane.

Auditions are August 25th and 26th (Thursday and Friday) at 7PM at So It Goes Coffeehouse in Coos Bay. All roles are available with the exception of The Wolf. We are seeking funny, brash and fearless folk. There will be doubling and tripling of some roles. All ethnicities and types are encouraged to audition. Elizabethans welcome, though we'll be murdering some sacred cows. We will read from the script at the audition. If you have a small monologue, classic or contemporary, that is fine to bring as well, though not required. Some roles require brief dancing. The show will begin performances in late October and run into November with some tour dates. There is some pay.

For more information contact John Beane at soitgoescoffee@gmail.com or at 541.808.9333

LONGRIVER & TRAVIS CHAMP WITH RICH RUSSELL: WEST COAST SUMMER TOUR '16

Free performance Tuesday, August 16 at 7pm: Coos Bay, OR @ So It Goes Coffeehouse

Hailing, respectively, from Nehalem, Oregon and Austin, Texas, TRAVIS CHAMP and LONGRIVER embark on their first West Coast Tour in support of last year’s highly acclaimed LP THIS WESTERN ROAD and LONGRIVER'S eponymous debut.

Rolling Stone Germany describes the songs of TRAVIS CHAMP as "Cosmic American and Experimental Country.” The Austin Chronicle claims LONGRIVER hearkens Bob Dylan and John Fahey as he spins "mesmerizing acoustic soundscapes.”

Sample their albums at:

http://www.whatbangrecords. com/thiswesternurl/
http://longriver.bandcamp.com/ album/longriver

Travis Champ and Longriver exemplify both the darkness and light of American country, blues, and folk. From the cryptic and haunted lyricism echoing from Champ’s baritone voice, to the grounded, yet mystical allure of Longriver’s incantations of love and death, of mothers and fathers, of the sun and the moon. These songs are for the high and the low, for those who dwell in the Shadows, and those who dream beside the River.

Please get in touch with Travis Champ tcharleschamp@gmail.com or David at david@longriversongs.com for guest list, interviews, or promo copies

RICH RUSSELL

Having toured extensively throughout the continental
United States and Australia as the frontman for The Lonesome Heroes, Rich Russell wears, with a grin, the much deserved badge of modern-day troubadour. His songs are contagious, his legend inextinguishable.

Press:
“Many bands claim Gram Parsons and Big Star as influences, but few compare to such time-tested landmarks. The reconfigured Lonesome Heroes fill the bill by drawing as much from Seventies pop as they do from a potpourri of country rock. The ear-pleasing results make for one of Austin's best discs of 2015.”
-The Austin Chronicle

"Cosmic Austin-based based Lonesome Heroes’ album Can't Stand Still creeps under the skin, right into your bloodstream. Western Americana fans will delight”
-KCRW 89.9 FM, Los Angeles

LONGRIVER

Up-and-coming Folk/American Primitive solo artist from Austin, Texas formerly of The Black and ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead

https://longriver.bandcamp. com/

Praise for Longriver:

"In his former quartet the Black, David Longoria unraveled a Dylan-esque twang and rolling lyrics bursting through a rockabilly energy. Now, the Austin songwriter and poet, Longriver, turns towards an intimate folk. The intricate guitar work that highlighted last year’s demos and cassette-only debut hearkened John Fahey as Longriver spins mesmerizing acoustic soundscapes."
– Doug Freeman , Austin Chronicle

"I can't say that I've seen a performance so magnetic and intimate in a very long time. Seriously, I haven't seen someone hold the audience in the palm of their hand like that since I saw Townes Van Zandt." - JT Halmfist, Audios Amigos, Thee Headliners

TRAVIS CHAMP

Poet and Songwriter of obscure legend from the remote town of Nehalem, Oregon formerly of The Cedar Shakes and publisher of Abandon Press

http://www.whatbangrecords. com/thiswesternurl

Acclaim for Travis Champ (The Cedar Shakes):

"The vision of the recently founded label, Whatbang Records, is as eloquent as it is promising claiming to produce "Independent Cosmic American and Experimental Country on 12" and 7" vinyl. Sounds too good to be true. The first LP from The Cedar Shakes eliminates any doubts, however, as to whether that promise is grandiose. (4 out 5 Stars)"
- Wolfgang Doebeling - Rolling Stone Germany

"I have now heard the best new voice of fresh country music you'll never hear on cliched country music stations.." - Matt Love (Coast Weekend)
