7th Figurativas Painting and Sculpture Competition
The Foundation of the Art and the Artists seeks entries for Figurativas '13, to be held October 2013 at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain.
Awards: 36.000 € Painting and 44.000 € Fund for Sculpture. Jurors:
Jacob Collins, Gottfried Helnwein, Odd Nerdrum, Antonio López García,
Jose Manuel Infiesta, Tomás Paredes y Santiago Echeberría. Any artist
who wishes, may take part. Only one piece of work per artist will be

Cooking Classes At The Black Market Gourmet
1. Black Market Gourmet will have a cooking class on Monday April 22nd at 6 p.m. and again on Tuesday April 23rd at 2 p.m. These are free classes and we hope you can join us.

Next Show At The Black Market Gourmet
There will be a Meet the Artist reception at Black Market Gourmet on May 19th from
2-4 PM. The artist, Robert Levy, MD, practiced Internal Medicine at
North Bend Medical Center from 1983 to 2005. In his retirement, he has
been traveling the globe and learning the art of photography. Once a
hobby, it is now a full time enjoyment. He believes that photography can
help patients get better when ill, and comfort friends and family when
they are visiting their loved ones in hospital settings or extended care
facilities. He also has a website http://www.flickr.com/photos/photos4health/ where he publishes his photos. His
work will be on display for the months of May and June and he is eager
to share his stories at the informal reception. Please drop in and meet
the artist.

Poetry Event at North Bend Library
Northwest Poets Read at North Bend Public Library
Poets Gary Lark, Kelly Terwilliger and Tim Whitsel give a public reading at the North Bend Public Library on Sunday, April 14 at 2 pm . This free reading is part of a series of poetry readings featuring outstanding Northwest poets.
Gary Lark, lived in Coos Bay for a long time. He currently lives in Grants Pass , and is the author Men At he Gates, Getting By, Eels and Fishes, and Tasting the Salmon’s Flesh. Getting By received the Holland Prize, which recognizes the best unpublished book of poetry in American English.
Kelly Terwilliger’s works have appeared in many journals, including the Atlanta Review, Calyx, Comstock Review, and Hunger Mountain . Her book A Glimpse of Oranges was her debut collection, published by Finishing Line Press. She works as a storyteller and lives in Eugene .
Tim Whitsel is the author of We Say Ourselves, published by Traprock Press in 2012. For six years he directed Windfall, a monthly reading series at the Eugene Public Library featuring Northwest writers. He grew up in Indiana and lives in Springfield with his wife Carol. They live on a 100-year old floodplain northeast of Springfield .

Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio, a local artists’ co-op located in the Continuum Center in Old Town Bandon announces a Call to Artists for the Fourth Annual Miniature and Small Works Show to be held during June and July, 2013. All 2-D media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing, print making (artist- pulled prints), collage, mixed media & encaustic are acceptable.
Pat Snyder, Coos Bay artist, printmaker and art educator, will award cash prizes as follows: $50 first place, $25 second place, plus three Honorable Mention ribbon awards in each category. A People’s Choice Award will be decided by public ballot for a two-month exhibition for one Guest Artist at Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio during 2014.

You are invited to participate in the Third Annual ROCK ‘n’ ART Festival on Saturday, May 25th at Pony Village Mall, space 151 (next to Cone 9). This event is sponsored by ORCO Arts and Pony Village Mall and will benefit the GUILD after-school music program.
Pony Village has committed to extensive advertising for this event. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to sell your art and gain exposure for your work. We encourage you to clear out your studio and bring all of your art to sell whether framed or unframed. All art forms are acceptable – painting, pottery, sculpture, blown glass, Fimo, jewelry, etc. Please feel free to be creative with display ideas.
Booth space for this event is free of charge thanks to Pony Village Mall and will be located in the main corridor of the mall as well as inside the event venue. Set up time will be from 5:00 – 8:00pm on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25 between 9:00 and 10:00am. Please use the back door to the south of Sears. It is important that you are completely set up and ready to sell when the Mall opens at 10:00am on Saturday.
We ask that you make a suggested donation of 25% of your sales. Donations are 100% tax deductible. Receipts will be available at the event.
This special event will include live music, professional artists selling their work as well as art created by North Bend High School students. Other family- friendly and fun activities will take place throughout the Mall during this event.

Summer Schedule for Monday Plein Air Painters
Here is a list of painting sites for paintouts summer. The first will be at Mingus Park in Coos Bay. We’ll start with no. 1 and work our way through and hopefully at the end we will have quite a collection of Southwest Oregon water works. They are all concentrated around bodies of water but there will be lots of environment to paint if you get tired of looking at water.
As in the past we’ll meet at 10 am and paint until 2 pm and then get together to share our work. We have tried to schedule the paintouts so we alternate Bandon and north with south of Bandon. An email reminder will go out at the end of each week with directions and a brief description for the next paintout.

Rules of Entry:
Accepted Media:
All 2-D media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing, print making (artist- pulled prints), collage, mixed media & encaustic
Not Included: Photography and digital prints of any kind
Categories:
Miniature – Up to 8” maximum in any direction, excluding mat and frame
Small Works – Up to 14” maximum in any direction, excluding mat and frame
All work must be framed or on gallery wrap canvas; including a wire hanger (no saw tooth hangers please).
Entry Fees:
The non-refundable fees to exhibit are: $10 for first piece, $5 for the second piece and $5 for the third piece.
Awards:

Incorporating text as design in collage; utilizing words to enhance the “story”, Susan will guide you through several thought-provoking exercises to explore combining words and pictures in your collages. All materials will be provided for you to complete two collages; you just show up with playing in mind!
