Do you or do you not want an art museum on the South Coast? It is that simple. If you haven't renewed your membership you've said no.
It won't hurt the successful artists living on the South Coast, Dutch, David, Susan (Lehman and D'Amico), Kelle, Kim, Steve and Susan Dimmock,and Pat Snyder, they'll keep on selling and showing, but the kids who get to show every other year and the less gifted or commercial, they'll slip away.
It is wonderful to have your work in a gallery. Nothing compares to the first time you get represented by a gallery. Just how many of us can claim that honor? You think it is hard to get by a jury and get in a show at the museum? Try getting your work hung without the long list of credentials the successful artists have.
A fine art museum is the one place where art and community can come together. Shows, classes, events and social opportunities are just some of the gifts a fine art museum brings to the community.
But if you don't want it, all you have to do is say so, say it by not renewing your membership.
