Paint Out

Liv -
Just wanted to call your attention to our arrangements and scheduling of the annual Sandgren Summer Coast PantOut . We'll be down your way this year.
The embedded workshop is long since full but the PaintOut is open and free to anyone with a desire to see how other painters deal with the landscape. This year we are making a progressive out of it and will be painting the five southernmost Oregon Lighthouses starting at Heceta Head 12 July and moving your way. Next year we intend to paint the Northern ones - and of course Cape Disappointment and Northhead in SW Washington.
Full schedule and itinerary for the two week event can be viewed at  eriksandgren.com  under events.....

Please share with whomever. Hope to see you out painting!

Thanks, Erik

America's Team

Thank you Captain America for fifteen years of devoted service. No it wasn't YOUR CUP, but the road to this moment is littered with Abby memories. You built, brought and bullied this team into becoming world's champions and truly AMERICA'S TEAM

(And what a class act for star Carli Lloyd to pass the captain's arm band!)

Simply THE BEST

Once again The World’s Greatest Soccer Team stands for the Colors against the world and they did it with a ton of criticism, complaints and nay-saying. They did it; they never let the whiners, the doubters, the casual fans, those who don’t know a single name besides Alex Morgan, all bitching, moaning and nit-picking.

They face a serious opponent, Japan and they take the game, the opponent and the expectations seriously.

How much more pressure could they be under? Abby’s last World Cup, the Talking Heads demanding that they win, the public celebrating before the game starts.

Now listen to the ole Trawler, win or lose they are the best and brightest and they deserve the admiration and the adulation of every watching person.

Ask Germany, the best can and frequently does lose.

But this group of women have brought a game which nobody in the stateside press really understands and made it the dream of every child and arm-chair athlete. They did it with three percent of the prize money of the men’s game and yet the men’s game doesn’t get or deserve a tenth of the press the women get. They did it with grit, (If you still believe soccer is a non-contact sport you’ve never seen these women play. Alexandra Popp could tell you a thing or two about how non-contact it is), guts and grime and they are still expected to put on the war paint and smile like a beauty contestant when the press conference comes around.

And thank God they don’t give a shit! Abby had the answer, “All I want when the final whistle sounds is to have one more goal than they do.”

Abby may not play, but don’t think for a moment that her broad back didn’t bring this team to the top of the world. One of the strikers will win the Golden Ball, best player in the World Cup, and Megan Rapinoe won’t care, she did all she needed to do on the pitch. Klingenberg and Krieger won’t be on the cover of Cosmo, they’ll be too busy working in the trenches.

That’s the way this team works, they do the job, for their country, their sport and for each other and we have the privilege of watching. . .

Valley Girls...and Guys

“Elements: Ocean + Valley”
Jon Leach, Susan Lehman, Pat Snyder, and Holly Wilson Werner
July 2—August 31, 2015
Black Market Gourmet
495 Central Ave.
Coos Bay, OR
541-269-0194
for immediate release 6-27-15:
The Black Market Gourmet announces their upcoming art show ”Elements: Ocean + Valley” bringing together the work of four artists—two from the Umpqua Valley area and two from the Southern Oregon Coast—for the months of July and August 2015. Holly Wilson Werner from Roseburg and Jon Leach from Winston join Pat Snyder from Coos Bay and Susan Lehman from Bandon. All four artists work primarily with abstract imagery somewhat based upon elements found in Nature—both here on the coast and inland, rural as well as urban.
Holly Wilson Werner, former owner of Fishers Flowers and Fine Art in Roseburg, bases most of her pastel and acrylic paintings upon floral elements. Jon Leach, originally from Seattle, has been primarily an abstract painter most of his art career. Leach shows his non-objective art work both nationally and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Both Wilson Werner and Leach exhibited their collaborative work at the Coos Art Museum this past year.
Pat Snyder, known throughout this area for his art as well as for teaching, has shown his landscape based acrylics, collages, prints, and oils at the Coos Art Museum, Lane Community College and at Second Street Gallery in Bandon. Susan Lehman, originally from California, also shows her abstract acrylic collages and seascapes locally through the Second Street Gallery in Bandon as well as the Mindpower Gallery in Reedsport.
The public is invited to the artists' reception at the Black Market Gourmet on Sunday, July 19th from 2-4 pm. Will Hubel from Left Coast Jazz will provide the music and Black Market Gourmet the catering for the reception. BMG is located at 495 Central Avenue in Coos Bay. Call for hours: 541-269-0194.
