Get In The Swing

HELLO!
Thanks for all your help during our Contra Dance season.
The May  9 dance is our Grand Finale of the season (our next season starts in September.)
It's a big dance with a great caller, Greg McKenzie, and wonderfully danceable music by Celtic Swing.
The South Coast Folk Society will hold its annual meeting prior to the dance and our membership is open.
Here is our PSA for the May 9 Contra Dance Party.
Also attached is a PDF copy of the PSA, and a nice photo of the band Celtic Swing.
Thanks again, and have a great summer.
Paul Poresky for the South Coast Folk Society.

Contra Dance Party May 9 in Greenacres

All are welcome at the Greenacres Grange Hall on Saturday, May 9, for an evening of light-hearted, easy-to-learn social dancing.  Beginners, singles and families can all join in the dancing.  The fun begins at 7PM with a brief lesson by our guest caller, Greg McKenzie of North Bend, followed by three hours of contra and circle dances.  Greg will teach and call a variety of interesting dances throughout the evening.  He is known on the West Coast for his clear and precise calling style that sweeps in first-time dancers quickly and gives center stage to the music. First timers who arrive in time for the 7PM lesson will receive a ticket for free admission to their second dance.
The music for this month’s contra dance party will be provided by Celtic Swing.  Celtic Swing formed during the Coos Bay Celtic Festival last year. Hailing from Corvallis are Beth Brown, on cello and whistles, Ralph Penunuri, mandolin and harmonica, and from Coos Bay are Jennifer Sordyl, fiddle & Don Berg, guitar. This band incorporates seasoned celtic, old timey, swing fiddle and fancy guitar playing tunes in their repertoire. You can expect danceable sets from smooth jigs to swing to rockin’ reels and back.
This event is sponsored by the non-profit South Coast Folk Society. The annual membership meeting of the society will be held at 5PM prior to the dance.  New members are always welcome.  Come learn about our educational activities. Contra dancing is fun for singles, couples, and families.  This event is alcohol and fragrance free. Refreshments are available during the dance. Doors open at 6:45PM.  Admission: General $7, Students w/ID and Seniors over 60 $6, Members $5, and Supervised Children under 6 are free. For more information call 541-572-5370 or visit http://southcoastfolksociety.wordpress.com or Facebook.

Going Home

Hi all,

The Oregon Coast Music Festival is looking for a few good homes....
for some of our Orchestra musicians :)

If you have a bed and bath available the week of 7/19-7/26 and would
like to open your home to a musician - they are really lovable and no trouble at all...

We are specifically looking for homes with no pets  due to allergies  :(

And really need a couple of spots within walking distance of Marshfield High School.

If you've never housed a musician you've missed a wonderful
opportunity to participate in the magic that is the Oregon Coast
Music Festival.

Thank you -
Kathy

Ship Out

Get in the mood for the Tall Ships, the Celtic Fest, and whatever else with some great music.  May 1st at 5:30 in the Myrtlewood Room at the Coos Bay Pubic Library.
The Stomptowners are a dynamic group featuring traditional Irish instrumentation, voice and foot percussion. Expect to hear an exciting blend of foot stomping jigs, reels and hornpipes interlaced with melodic, soulful Celtic songs, feisty sea shanties and a few good pub songs.
