Colorful Art

The Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center will host an exhibition of artworks reflecting upon the theme of “Color: BIG & small”. Each artist is invited to submit 1-2 pairs of art works celebrating COLOR! They can be contrasting or the same color families. Monochromatic, analogous, or complimentary—all gloriously rich and beguiling! COLOR can be FUN, moody, exciting, serious or playful—share with us your favorites! Let's brighten the hospital walls for the winter season.

Folkys Dancing

COOS BAY — The South Coast Folk Society will hold its monthly international folk dance at
7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Bay Area Senior Activity Center, 886 S. Fourth St. (at Ingersoll), Coos Bay. From 7 to 8 p.m., instructors will teach dances. From 8 to 10 p.m. dancers can request their favorites from our huge music library. Folk dancing is a fun way to experience music and traditions from around the world. Some dances are gentle and others are lively — you’re sure to find something you like. No experience or partner is necessary. Wear comfortable clothes. All ages are welcome. Create a Personalized Folk Art Painting in Acrylic. Join us in welcoming Portland artist, Alison O’Donoghue to Coos Art Museum, January 28th & 29th for an acrylic painting workshop from 10am to 4pm. Alison will assist participants in creating a painting filled with images of personal significance in a colorful, lively folk art format of stacking, interacting and pattern making. With simple, yet meaningful images such as birds, animals, flowers, plants and other objects, you will create a harmonious and interactive world within the bounds of the painting surface. Through the process of layering with acrylics, your result is a colorful, vibrant painting glowing with light and color.
Media: Acrylics. Skill level: all skill levels welcome. Age Range: 12 and up.

Santa Goes Boating

Coos Bay Boat Building Center Santa’s Workshop

The Coos Bay Boat Building Center will hold their third annual Santa’s Workshop on Saturday, November 26th from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The workshop is for youth 6 to 12 years of age and the project is a model paddlewheel boat.  Students will learn basic woodworking skills and may keep their boats or donate them to the Bus Jam holiday collection for needy families.  Cost of the project is $10.  Kits to make a boat at home will be available for $10.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be available for attendees and a light lunch of chili and hotdogs will be served from noon until 1:30 p.m.  Donations to help fund youth workshops are welcome.  The boat building center is located at 100 Newmark Avenue, Coos Bay.  To RSVP and for more information contact the Tom Leahy at 541-808-2211.

Coos County Colors


Painters of Coos County Opening Reception
South Slough Reserve Interpretive Center

The painters of Coos County who tramp about the scenic and spectacular places have been joyously capturing the vistas in their neighborhoods. They feel privileged to show their work at the beautiful South Slough Reserve gallery.

They are a collection of painters who have been traveling and painting together for decades. They gladly welcome new members to join them! They send out emails to suggest where they will paint each week.

The Friends of the South Slough Reserve (FOSS) will host the reception at the Interpretive Center Auditorium main Gallery located at 61907 Seven Devils Road on Saturday November the 5th.  Viewing is from 2:00 until 4:00 light refreshments served by FOSS. 

Please come out and bring a friend to view our efforts.  One of the goals of the Bay Area Artists is to develop Coos Bay and neighboring towns into an Art Destination.
