Coos Art Museum welcomes award-winning artist Sharon Wise for an intensive 3-day “Realism in Watercolor” Workshop Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9, 10 and 11, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  A master at capturing light, Sharon will share how to convey reflected and refracted colors and highlights as seen mirrored by a silver pot, through a crystal vase or as it travels through flower petals.  By pushing the limits of the dry brush technique in transparent watercolor the many layers of paint through color and shadows are revealed, producing the effect of an oil painting on canvas.  Workshop participants will cultivate the same unparalleled skills in creating their own representational paintings.

 

Sharon Wise is a 2014 CAM Biennial Honorable Mention recipient for her exquisitely detailed watercolor painting Eagles Nest and the First Place Winner of the 2012 CAM Biennial People’s Choice Award, for which she received a solo exhibition at Coos Art Museum.

 

Fee for the 3-day, adults only workshop is $175 for CAM members, $190 for non-members.  Participants should be familiar with painting using watercolor and be of intermediate to advanced skill level. Get a Life

This is absolutely, definitely, certainly the last chance for you to see It's a Wonderful Life at the Dolphin theater in beautiful, downtown Empire.

Now you know you are sick to death of the Jimmy Stewart version and to tell the whole truth did you every, really buy Jimmy as George? No of course not, the Marlo Thomas version, It Happened One Christmas is so much better and besides it has Orson Wells as Potter and that's enough said.

But now you have a chance to see a live theater version right here in the beautiful Bay area and it would be a terrible shame to miss it and you wouldn't want people to say that YOU don't support local theater and you can take the Long Sufferin and get some extra points which will come in handy when she finds out what you bought yourself for Christmas and you can get away from the kids with all that sugar energy making even the dog hide and then when you get home no one will yell and scream when you turn on the football game which comes on after the 2:00 showing and you'll look like a big hero and not just the thing on the sofa.

So crack open the wallet, it's good for the moths to get a breath of fresh air every now and then and shell out the twenty bucks which you were just going to spend on beer and take the Long Sufferin and see a really great show and start the New Year as a good guy and not the dork you were all last year and wouldn't that be nice for a change, so go see It's a Wonderful Life and remember no beasts, no breasts, angel-foo, bell-foo, merriment-foo, Trawler-Bob says check it out!

Why sit around waiting for the power to go out when you can join the Dolphin Players for their production of It's a Wonderful Life. You know you're going to watch it anyway so why not enjoy the excitement of live theater?

television is furniture!

Besides if you come tonight you get to see The Ole Trawler himself taking the tickets and helping around the theater.

Now what could be better, great theater and seeing The Ole Trawler working, a sight seldom seen this century!

And you can do all of this and eat popcorn and drive in the rain and for only $10.00! You'd blow that on two lattes. Even less if you are a certified old fart or a small child. Children are $5 dollars and the senile rate is $8 so don't miss a chance to get something for letting your arteries harden!

And if you claim to be a small child you'd better be accompanied by a responsible parent. Try to find one of those on short notice.

Call for Artists: ArtWorks Northwest SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2015 The Umpqua Valley Arts Center invites artists to submit their work to the annual ArtWorks NW Juried Art Show.  Submission deadline is Friday, March 6, 2015; entries can be submitted online at CaFE (callforentry.org): https://www.callforentry.org  https://www.callforentry.org.  Awards: 1st Place: $1000, 2nd Place: $500, 3rd Place $300, J. Lynn Peterson Hundred Valleys Award: $200. Juror: Marie Watt is a nationally known artist whose art practice includes the use of fibers, printmaking, sculpture, and installation to express universal human experiences. Watt exhibits nationally in solo and invitational exhibitions, including a mid-career retrospective at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem, Oregon, and the Tacoma Art Museum; other solo exhibitions include the Seattle Art Museum, the Missoula Art Museum, the Austin Museum of Art, and the Portland Art Museum. Among many honors she has received a Bonnie Bronson Fellowship, a Betty Bowen Award, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship. Residencies including Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and Vermont Studio Center. Watt has work included in numerous public and private collections. She earned her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University School of Art in 1996, her AFA in Museum studies from the Institute of American Indian Art in 1992, and her BS in Speech/Communication and Art from Willamette University in 1990. Watt is represented by PDX Contemporary Art (Portland, OR) and Greg Kucera Gallery (Seattle, WA). She currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.  Eligibility: Eligible to all artists in the Pacific Northwest region to submit up to (3) entries in all themes, genres and media, except video. All work must be display-ready upon arrival. UVAA commission rates are 30% for UVAA members and 40% for non-members. Entries must be original works of art and entirely created by the entrant. No reproductions (including digital reproductions, giclee, iris, offset press, or inkjet copies) representing original artworks will be accepted. Fine art prints (including c-prints, digital prints, etchings, lithographs, woodblock, etc.) are eligible, but must be signed and numbered and in a limited edition of 125 or less. Only original artwork will be considered. No work will be accepted into this show which is in violation of any copyright. Artwork must have been completed within the last two years. Work must not have been previously exhibited at UVAA.  Entry Fee: Non-refundable $30 fee for non-members and $25 for members for 1-3 Artwork entries. OPEN CALL FOR ART:    CHAOS THEORY    CHAOS THEORY    A non-juried, non-censored, first come, first served exhibition that shatters the norms of the usual gallery show!    For just $15.00 per piece, we invite you to bring in two or three, or an entire collection of your artistic creations. We want you to fill the walls with an eclectic mix of what Southern Californian artists have to offer.   Bring in your best - impress us with your creativity -  and your willingness to be a part of the chaos. Get your work on our walls!  FILL OUT THIS FORM FOR EACH WORK YOU ARE SUBMITTING Print and fill out the form and bring one for EACH piece you are submitting. NO advance registration is required.
